Mara Hears in Style
Mara takes on the world with her flashy purple hearing aids and sassy, hot pink earmolds.
Mara’s first day at her new school is filled with ups and downs surrounding her hearing aids, but Mara makes a connection on the playground and finds that her hearing aid superpowers are perfect for making new friends.
“Accessible, engaging, entertaining and informative, Mara Hears in Style by the team of author/storyteller Terri Clemmons and artist/illustrator Lucy Rogers will encourage readers ages 4-8 to respect hearing differences and inspire kids who worry about making new friends. This very special picture book is filled with American Sign Language depictions — including a full alphabet spread — so readers can learn to sign alongside Mara as they discover new ways to bridge communication gaps in their own local communities and schools.” —Midwest Book Review
Coming Soon-ish!
I can’t wait to be able to share more details about signing a middle-grade novel contract on the porch of a Highlights Foundation cabin! But for now, I can say this story revolves around changing friendships, rivalries, and sports—especially wrestling—and features a protagonist who is hard of hearing. Readers will root for the underdog who keeps his sense of humor while learning more than a new sport. Stay tuned for more on my debut middle-grade novel!
